What people ask us most.
Is it really free?
Yes. The launcher, the updates, the instances, the social side : all of it. Only cosmetics cost money, and they change nothing about the game. You still need to own Minecraft Java.
Will I get banned on servers?
No. LightClient is a launcher : it does not touch the game in ways anticheats flag, and your usual servers work exactly as before. You stay responsible for the mods you choose to install.
Is this a virus?
No, and you do not have to take our word for it : every release ships with a SHA-256 checksum and you can scan the installer on VirusTotal yourself. Builds are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run - signing is planned.
Do I need a Minecraft account?
Yes, a Microsoft account with Minecraft Java. Sign-in goes through the official Microsoft OAuth flow, so your password never passes through our servers.
Does it run on Mac or Linux?
LightClient runs on Windows 10/11 today. A Linux build is planned; a macOS build is not planned for now.
Will my usual mods work?
Fabric and Forge are supported, from 1.7 to 1.21.11. Each instance keeps its mods to itself.
